Madness

Waiting for the UCLA Western Kentucky game to begin. Watching Louisville play Tennessee.

Dick Endberg on Louisville coach Rick Pitino: ~ "(He's) been a winner all his coaching career since playing at Umass. He was a freshman when Dr. J. was a senior. Al Skinner the coach at Boston College was also on that team."

While I dig the Umass* hype, Pitino has not been a winner throughout his coaching career. Under Pitino, the Boston Celtics went 102-146 from 1997 to 2001. While head coach of the New York Knicks, his team went 38-44 during the 1987-88 season.

FTR:

Dr. J played two seasons for the Minutemen 1969-70 & 1970-71. He left after his junior year

Via Wikipedia (pardon the laziness): "Pitino was a freshman at the same time future NBA legend Julius Erving spent his junior (and final) year at UMass, although the two never played on the same team because freshmen were ineligible to play varsity sports at the time."

*Umass, an NCAA bubble team heading into the A-10 Tournament is currently making the most of the NIT. They beat Syracuse in the Carrier Dome last Tuesday night after coming back from 22 down. Their next game is on Tuesday at 7 p.m. EST, against the defending NCAA Champion Florida in the NIT semifinal.

Marine Corps Commercial Aired during the game:

Marines are on top of Hoover Dam & on the beach outside of San Francisco Bay. Should I be worried? Is the enemy at the gates? I should have voted for that fence. Are they already in? Are they my neighbors? Who do I report them to?
