Myspace as source material

I am amazed at how Myspace & Facebook have become the go to sources for photos of those involved in scandal or tragedy, the Virgina Tech shooting victims for example. That mainstream news sources write things like, ". . . according to her myspace page . . ." seems odd to me. Are the media outlets that are publishing photos of Ms. Dupre paying myspace for use of the photos or are they up for grabs, how does that arrangement work?

Can Spitzer call girl cash in?

Dupre also made an appearance in a video by the rapper Mysterious, director Jonathan Ehlers told Los Angeles TV station KCAL on Tuesday. In the video, Dupre is cast as the girlfriend of Mysterious, at one point making a vulgar hand gesture while lip-synching lyrics that include an expletive.

Oh heavens no, not an expletive and a vulgar gesture.
