Hit-and-run driver critically injures man in wheelchair

A 47-year-old double amputee in a wheelchair was critically injured this morning in a hit-and-run accident, Los Angeles police said.

The unidentified man was crossing San Pedro Street at 61st Street about 12:15 a.m. when he was struck by a gray or dark blue compact, according to LAPD Officer Marjan Mobasser.

"It's possible the driver didn't notice that the person was hit," she said.

Great work Officer, I smell a promotion. Did you see the chair? How could someone, even in a Hummer not realize they flattened a man & his wheelchair? How intoxicated do you think the driver was?

The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Mobasser said.

The name of the victim was withheld pending notification of his family.
